Frequently Asked Questions for DEEPSPACE DJ

What is DEEPSPACE DJ?

DEEPSPACE DJ is a passion project by someone that chooses, willingly, to go by 'Thighs', that's a red flag if ever I've seen one.

In short, it's an incremental game that drapes itself in the trappings of science-fiction and stews itself in the flavour of being a disc jockey in deep space.

What do I do in DEEPSPACE DJ?

As a DEEPSPACE DJ, you'll want to generate 'Trax' to play on your pirate radio station. Once you have some, you can Broadcast them to generate Cache.

This Cache can be used to buy upgrades to generate basic materials easier or increase your capacity for your basic resources.

Broadcasting is inconsistent, as the listenership is fickle. Cache will be hard to generate at first. Generating the resources gets easier as you accumulate Cache, however.

Research systems should, when they are implemented, help you define a more unique direction to play.

What kind of universe is DEEPSPACE DJ set in?

A dystopian one, though I don't want it to be invasive to the gameplay. This is not a nice, or kind, universe. Folks live in 'pods' of people, and can't choose who they get to room with.

Work becomes a relief from the miserable home-life that at best is quiet and awkward. Your station gives them some relief, it's no wonder they're willing to sacrifice some of their precious Cache to help you keep it going.

So, what is 'Cache' then?

Permissions? Market-share? Some vague sense of control in these uncertain times?

Cache is not fiat/money, it is 'ownership' of computational power, or space you 'keep' in a supercomputer, or something like that. It does not impact your ability to buy nutrient paste, or improve your lodgings, per se.

The purpose of attaining Cache is explicitly to use that computational power to elevate folks in the dystopia of the game.

If a quest system is added, which I hope to implement in time, I'm not sure that ultimately meaningful change will be able to be made, but I would at least let the player work toward it.
